Female Strength Training Benefits

There are many benefits to female strength training. Aside from the most common one, which is, of course, the weight loss, there are other important health advantages that strength training can supply for women.

One of the most important benefits to female strength training is that it helps to prevent Osteoporosis by increasing bone density. Osteoporosis is a very common condition that a women (and men) succumb to. Strength training is one of the best ways to prevent it and even to start to reverse it in it's early stages.

Another known benefit of strength training is the confidence it gives women. Women who are stronger naturally feel healthier, younger and more vibrant.

Naturally, a stronger body is also less susceptible to injuries and falls. This enables you to age as gracefully as possible. So, when you increase your muscle mass, you are actually adding more life to your body and improving your general health.

Female strength training is also much more effective for weight loss than just cardio alone. In fact if you perform a strength training routine as a circuit you'll be performing cardio and strength training in one workout. A circuit is when you perform the exercises back to back with no or very little rest between sets, keeping your heart rate up. Strength training also increases your metabolic rate allowing you to burn more calories throughout the day.

Many women shy away from strength training fearing that they may look too bulky or "manly". This is just not possible for most women. Even if a woman works out as hard as a man, her chances of gaining muscle like a man are much lower due to the hormone testosterone. So if you don't have testosterone levels like a man then there is no reason to fear the bulk.

But what your will gain is a much more toned body with lean muscle and a shapelier physique. The more lean muscle mass you build the more calories you burn throughout the day. For instance, if you have 10 pounds lean muscle, you would burn 300 to 500 calories. On the other hand, if you double your lean muscles, say 20 pounds, you would be able to burn 700 to 1,000 calories every day!

Female strength training also improves your posture and balance. This is very important, especially as you get older. Full Body work outs that target all the major muscle groups, legs, buttocks, back and the core muscles can provide you with excellent balance and improved posture.

Strength training also helps to prevent injuries. Stronger muscles help to protect you from serious injuries when you have an accident and aid you in recovery after an unfortunate injury. This becomes more and more important as we age.

Female strength training would also lower your chances of many other diseases associated with inactive or sedentary life styles, such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and many other preventable diseases. It is important to take note of this benefit, since heart problems are, actually, the number one cause of death in the US.

Strength training should be incorporated in your lifestyle. Not only would you look better, you will feel better and more confident, and generally, you can enjoy life better and longer. It takes some discipline at start, but once you start getting results and feeling the difference, you won't want to go back. Female strength training is something any women at any age can start and gain benefits.
