In March, 2008 I finally made up my mind that I'd been obese for far too long. I have dieted a lot of times in my life, and I've usually managed to lose a few pounds, but the pounds had continued to creep up on me over the years, and I was at an all time high. I felt terrible.
I couldn't hardly get up out of a chair, everything I did tired me out, and I was so embarrassed about my weight that I seldom left the house. Since I've been on so many different diets, I finally came to the conclusion that the only thing that was going to work for me was restricting calories and exercising. My son had also been dieting, and he guided me to a website where I could keep track of everything I ate and the exercise that I did each day.
This proved to be a valuable tool. Every day I enter the foods I eat and their amounts as well as the different types of exercise I participate in. I try to keep my calories around 1000 each day, but if I go over that a little bit, I don't worry about it. I started out by trying to exercise with my Richard Simmons tapes, but at first I could only do a couple of exercises before I tired out. Eventually I got to where I was doing an entire tape every other day. From there I slowly built up to one 1-hour tape each day, and then I added a second hour-long tape on Mondays and Fridays.
I can now get through two hours of aerobic tapes with a short break in between. I've come a long way from the days when I couldn't get through the warm-up exercises, and I'm very pleased with my accomplishments. As of November, 2008, I'm proud to say that I've lost a total of 86 pounds with only 47 more to go.
