Step Ups: Lower Body Exercise

Dumbbell step ups can be performed with or without dumbbells.

You can perform these in three planes of motion, from the front, the side and by rotating onto the box.

This is a great exercise because it works so many muscles. It's the best exercise to lift and tighten those buttocks.

Muscles Worked

Primary Muscles: Quads, Glutes

Secondary Muscles: Hamstrings, adductors, adbuctors and core

What you need: A set dumbbells and a step box or any stable platform you can use to step onto.

Preparation :

  • Stand in front of a step box or secure platform.
  • Stand with feet shoulder width apart and pointing straight ahead.
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand.
Movement :
  • Draw belly button in.
  • Step onto the box and maintain balance on one leg.
  • Slowly step off the box or platform back to start.
  • Repeat with other leg.
  • This can be performed from the side and by rotating onto the box.
